Hip New BART Site Goes Live

Hot Studio joined forces with Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) to redesign a new site that showcases BART as the ultimate community site for Bay Area commuters and travelers.

Hot Studio’s challenge was to design a rich brand experience for the site and create a sense of community around every BART station. With that goal in mind, Hot’s team focused on the real story: The Bay Area is your home and BART is going your way. Whether you're headed to work or meeting friends, catching a flight or catching a game, BART brings the Bay Area together.

What we did

Hot designers brought a hip neighborhood experience online. A warm look and feel and customized photography reflect the pride of riders standing at their stations. The homepage features dynamic content including a QuickPlanner, real time arrivals, iTunes playlist for cool destinations, and content for new BART users, as well as BART news, videos, and email alerts. Now riders can also use the search tool to find up-to-the-minute information.

A sense of community runs across all the station landing pages. These pages showcase how BART riders personally interact with their neighborhood stations. Riders can upload their photos via Flickr. They can also access directions, print station maps, download BART schedule widgets, and browse content about their local neighborhood including food, shopping, and local attractions.

“Hot brought a ton of intelligence, creativity, discipline, and flat-out talent to transform the way we think about our online presence,” said Timothy Moore, BART’s website manager. “Their collaborative process made our project enjoyable and kept everything running smoothly. And as a bonus, they created a visual vocabulary that we plan to extend into off-line materials.”
