Why Bother Understanding the Buzz Around Node?

So the question was asked, why is Node interesting? Why should we care about another web app development framework?

Stephen O’Grady has a great roundup of reasons to be interested:

The Highlights:

  • Fundamental rethink of the server by focusing on Asynchronous event handling: Literally thousands of processes can be handled simultaneously since each url request does not block one of a finite number of running threads
  • FAST
  • It’s a web application framework, written in JAVASCRIPT


But his most interesting point is that it’s worth watching because of who is watching it. It’s forked nearly as many times as jQuery and it’s been around for roughly a year. Entire web apps have already been developed and staged in it.
