Mar 14, 2011 Blooms at the 14th Annual SXSW Interactive Awards

Hot Studio is proud to congratulate founders Tom and Lisa Finerty for landing a finalist nomination at the 2011 SXSW Interactive conference. Well regarded as the premier event for social media and emerging technologies, SXSW receives over 20,000 registrants for awards in all categories. Honored in the 2011 Interactive Community Award category, represents one of five nominated "social networks and wikis that have developed an extraordinarily active multi-user community and an exceptional following of users."
What started as a seed of an idea between husband and wife blossomed into the world’s first social media platform for gardeners. “We believe that a properly tended garden can be a community’s best resource,” said Lisa Finerty, a master gardener herself. “That’s why we worked with Hot Studio to create a site around individual gardening journals. We wanted people to peek over the virtual garden fence for advice from the across the world.” In less than a year since launch, has attracted over 15,000 “garden fences” with hobbyist and master gardeners sharing their unique garden experiences through journals, photos and video.
“Hot Studio really helped us visualize the experience we were creating,” Tom Finerty explained. "When we walked into their offices the site was a rough concept. When we walked out, we had 15,000 users. That’s no small achievement for Hot. When they talk about collaboration they really walk that walk. They live and die by collaboration. The SXSW nomination truly reflects the power of that philosophy.” stars alongside Groupon, PBS and The Johnny Cash Project as 2011 SXSW nominees. Learn more about the conference and festival.
