Hot Shoots, Hot Scores! Five-Star Basketball Website Redesign
Over 400 NBA players have Five-Star Basketball to thank. For Michael Jordan and many others, the path to Basketball Hall of Fame started at the Five-Star Basketball camp. Originally opened in the 1960s as a non-profit initiative to keep inner city kids at the top of their game and off the streets, today this family-run subscription-based company trains 15-17 year old kids for professional basketball careers. With new management on board and franchises popping up around the country, Five-Star Basketball challenged Hot Studio New York to create one united website experience for this iconic American brand.
Hoop Dreams Come True
With so many fragmented sources of basketball content online, from tournament registration to power rankings, Five-Star Basketball seized the opportunity to offer it all in one place. With help from Hot’s engineering partner Pivotal Labs, the team created a new backend infrastructure to support the social-powered experience this target demographic expects. Complete with news, videos, blogs, social media, registration for tournaments and access to player profiles and power rankings, the new Fivestarbasketball.com shines as a central source for this teen market. Even better, the new site honors its non-profit roots with free training drills for kids who can’t attend the camp.
The All-Star Team
Just like in basketball, the success of this project required expert skill and commitment from all members of the team. Collaborative by nature, Hot worked closely with Five-Star Basketball and Pivotal Labs and utilized agile development methods to build this revolutionary web experience from research to implementation in record time.
