The YMCA of San Francisco is a nonprofit focused on helping underserved communities in San Francisco and Marin counties through various health/wellness and family-support programs. YMCA SF focuses on critical outreach efforts targeting at-risk youth, the isolated elderly, and new immigrants struggling for a foothold in their community. These affordable, quality programs and facilities are available at 14 branches throughout the two regions. Hot Studio was hired to whip the Y’s website into shape.

Clearer communication and connections
In addition to needing a more sophisticated means of connecting with members and recruiting new ones, the Y needed a better way to communicate its prolific history, current offerings, and—to potential donors—the benefits of financial support.

Working within restrictions
Like any nonprofit, even one with a globally recognized brand, YMCA SF had limited resources. However, their limitations were not strictly financial; the Y’s technology resources were also minimal. A quality website would have to be created within these restrictions.

A complete picture of the Y’s many offerings
Working closely with our development partner, Emerge Interactive, we created a new design system—powered by a robust, yet flexible, content management system—that paints a better picture of how the Y positively serves Bay Area communities. It is now easier to search for programs, learn the benefits of volunteering and donating, and experience the Y’s broad offerings online.
